A five week summer festival which always ends on the first Monday in August, Crop Over celebrates the end of the sugar cane harvest. Throughout the festival calypso rhythms fill the air, culminating in the famous calypso contest - known as the Pic-O-De-Crop semi-finals and finals. Bridgetown Market is a massive street fair with the best of Barbadian art, handicrafts and food on sale. Other events include the Ceremonial Delivery of the Last Canes, the Mas and Steel competition, and a variety of traditional theatre, dance and music performances. The climax of the festival is Kadooment Day, when costumed bands of revellers dance through the streets to the best of the year's calypso.
